News caption reads, “Investigators try to figure out what led a bright shy 20-year-old to slaughter 26 children and adults at the Sandy Hook elementary school.”
Scripture contains something that gives us a little insight:
Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples, and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted, and they promised to give him money. (Luke 22:3-5 NLT)
When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders. Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself. (Matthew 27:3, 5 NLT)
What is amazing is that the news reports tell us that the shooter was dressed in black fatigues and body armor. It is apparent he wanted to protect himself, but when Satan was finished with him, just like when he was finished with Judas, they each killed themselves after they realized what they had done. Judas betrayed an innocent savior, while Adam Lanza betrayed a classroom of innocent children.
The path of evil always leads to destruction. Matthew 24:12 tells us that in the end times, “Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.” This gives us lots to ponder over.
