God has given each of us a body, a mind, and a spirit. Paul emphasizes the importance of taking care of what our Creator has given us by re-iterating it twice in 1 Corinthians:
“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV)
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (I Corinthians 6:19, 20 NKJV)
Too many christian churches only target the spiritual part of man. But if we do not take care of our physical bodies and our minds we have been entrusted with, we will not be able to fully fulfill the purpose God has created us for.
Because of the world we live in, we need enough food to feed the masses at reasonable cost figures. In order to do this, we process and inject our foods with all kinds of harmful things. Everything from growth hormones, to preservatives, to fillers, to enhancers. These things are slowly poisoning us and creating problems that we then have to have the pharmaceutical companies address. The pharmaceutical companies are then in bed with our doctors who then prescribe us drugs which then create side effects of their own. This then leaves us in a vicious cycle that is slowly killing us unnecessarily and the days we live are without the vigor we were designed to have. Jesus told us explicitly:
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 NKJV)
You do not have to be overweight to be a ticking timebomb. Many skinny people have terrible blood results and health issues. So true is the saying, “You are what you eat!” Most of us are already aware of three silent killers that lurk in most of our processed foods at alarming levels. They are sugar, fat and salt. What makes these so bad is that they cause our taste buds to be addicted to them. Once we are addicted, they then ever so slowly and silently bring death upon their victim. Also, most processed foods have too much salt that then leads to unnatural thirst, water retention, bloating, and elevated blood pressure. Then those who think they are doing good by going the diet route and cutting sugar intake by using diet sweeteners, are actually poisoning themselves also. You may say that this cannot be because everything is OK’ed by our government. Think about it. Washington DC is driven by lobbyists, greed and money. Need I say more?
We live in a hurry-up patch-up society that never really tries to get to the root of a problem in order to permanently fix-it. It is like putting band-aids on cancer. But one thing that is great about living in the USA is that each of us has the ability to fix a lot of the problems we face on the personal level. We have access to great information about eating healthy on the Internet. Then most Americans have access to healthy nutritious foods. We also have the ability to purchase our own wonderful machinery to prepare our foods.
We are also fortunate to live in a society that gives most of us plenty of free time. Exercise is something all of us should be doing in our free time. The benefits are incredible. It is not a question of whether or not it will help us. It is a fact that it will greatly enhance our life.
When we begin to feed our mind and body with good nutritional food and then exercise properly, we will most definitely transform our lives and the way we think and feel. This is not a maybe. This is an absolute. This is not just for some. This is for everyone. But it does take the desire to do it. Many will read this and think it is too late for them. It is never too late. If you breathe and are able to move — you can exercise! If you can eat and drink — you can control what you intake!
What I write here is not to pick on anyone or make fun of their lifestyle. It is to say, “Sticking to a healthy routine really will transform your life so please consider it.” People who were on anti-depressants, sleeping pills, pain killers, diet pills, diabetes medications, and a slew of other health problems can already testify to the remarkable results of living a totally healthy lifestyle.
In closing, I will tell you a little about what this has done for my wife and I. First about my wife. Over a four month period my wife lost 25 pounds by only changing what she ate and not the amount. We purchased a Vitamix and began drinking smoothies consisting of fruits and vegetables once a day. She began bicycling everyday. She can now fit fabulously into a bikini. This is all without starving herself. She only changed what she ate and how she ate it.
I am almost 57 years old. I run long distance in the 6 minute per mile range. I bike long distance in the 24 mph range. I weight lift at a local gym and max out many of the machines doing my sets. I feel healthier now than when I was in my twenties and in the Marine Corps. It is all about eating healthy, getting proper sleep, and having true peace in Jesus Christ. I take no drugs, vitamins, or pills of any kind. I take my wife’s example with foods and try my best to follow. I steer clear of any fast foods, lunchmeats and smoked items. I try to mostly eat fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts, and fish. I do throw in lean meats and dairy, but not everyday. I want to eventually eat less and less of them. I look at your average food store as a toxic dump. If my wife and I do shop there, we buy items with usually no more than five ingredients. These items will be very low in sugar, salt and fat content as a rule. We buy pure maple syrup, pure honey, and pure Stevia to liven things up a little. And yes, I do splurge and treat myself once in a while to things like a donut and a slice of pizza, but only occassionally and only as a reward!
This lifestyle is not meant to be a drudgery, but to vastly improve your quality of life! Please consider it. Please do not be deceived by the enemy like Eve was in the garden of Eden. You cannot eat whatever you want and not suffer the consequences. I am shocked by how many Christians believe God will take care of them even though they abuse their health and consume whatever they want, thinking it is freedom in Christ. Paul was concerned about Timothy’s health in 1 Timothy 5. We need to be concerned about our own health likewise.
