OCD, or obsessive‑compulsive disorder, is what society labels an ‘anxiety disorder’ in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).
OCD was first named in the late 19th century, but it has probably existed throughout human history. In short, it is a labeled ‘anxiety disorder’ characterized by repetitive behavior, bizarre rituals, and obsessive, irrational worrying – all of which can make living a ‘normal’ life extremely difficult. Still, the old axiom that there’s a fine line between madness and genius might be seen to apply when it comes to extreme OCD. Plenty of the recorded or suspected OCD cases from history have involved leaders and innovators. Four very famous high achievers with extreme OCD were as follows:
(1) Martin Luther (1483 – 1546) Protestant Reformation leader.
(2) Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson (1824 – 1863) Brilliant military commander.
(3) Nikola Tesla (1856 – 1943) One of the greatest inventors of the 20th century. The foundations of modern electrical engineering, x-rays, radar and radio all came from his remarkable brain.
(4) Howard Hughes (1905 – 1976) Legendary aviator, filmmaker and businessman.
OCD is something you may not think much about or you may not know anyhing about, unless you or someone around you has it. In my case, it hits very close to home. Where it hurts the most is when I watch someone I love very much never enjoy the inner peace and joy that God promises in His Word. This inner peace and joy can only come with total surrender to Jesus Christ.
So, as a person who once suffered from OCD in his younger years before I was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Spirit, my question is, “Is what society labels ‘Obsessive Compsive Disorder’ really a disorder or is it a result of demonic activity?”
I am not an expert on the subject of OCD or a doctor, but I am a believer that the Word of God trumps all. So in order to understand OCD and what I was dealing with, I first went out and gleaned some articles from the internet and have attached them to the bottom of this article as PDF’s.
Then I went and looked at how Jesus dealt with people who had mental ‘disorders’. In every single recorded case there was demonic activity involved. This opens my eyes to the fact that OCD can very well be linked to demonic activity.
I realize that this is very controversial in many circles, but if you are like me, you like to gather as much information as possible about a subject then decipher it for yourself afterwards. That is why I included the articles I have so you can get a start and eventually decide for yourself. Just remember, the truth is the truth and whatever decision you or I make does not change the truth of the matter. Drugs and therapy will only mask a mental problem that is really spiritual in nature. They will never get to the root of a problem. Only the great physician Jesus can!
