And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God. (Joel 2:13a KJV)
Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses? Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. (Mark 14:61-65 KJV)
How many of us religious people, who claim to be Christians, only rend our clothes by outward motions of our so-called ‘Christianity’? Oh, we play the ‘Christian’ very very well, but inwardly we no longer rend our heart!
We have the bumper stickers, the cross around our neck, go to church on Sundays, place an offering in the basket when it comes around. We know all the jargon and have it down perfectly how to appear like the ideal ‘Christian’.
But the big question is, “Do we really rend our heart or just rend our garments?” We may be able to fool others. Some of us may even be able to fool ourself. But we will never be able to fool Jesus!
It is amazing how we just got finished with a rare blood moon Lunar Eclipse on 4/15/14. This is the first of four consecutive total eclipses of the moon between April 2014 and September 2015. The prophet Joel talkes about the moon being turned into blood before the great and terrible day of the Lord in Joel 2:31. Within that same chapter, we are sternly warned to rend our hearts, not our garments in Joel 2:13. I do not believe it is by coincidence that they are both in the same chapter. Our Lord is very gracious in His warnings.
As sin runs rampant in preparation for the appearance of the man of sin, are you grieved by what you see around you? When you happen to succumb to sin, do you immediately rend your heart and repent? Think very seriously about these two questions because our souls live in a very dangerous time. Unless the days are shortened, how will the LORD find us upon His coming?
