‘Anointed’ simply means dedicated to the service of God.
‘Anointed Songs’ simply are ones that move us closer to God.
To the individual, ‘Anointed Songs’ are ‘all about me’ and ‘all about God’. It is about our relationship and His greatness.
These kind of songs have the ability to speak to hearts and change lives, turning them towards God in a way not always possible through mere spoken words. They have the ability to set us free from our burdens and hand them over to the Lord.
‘Anointed Songs’ have the ability to give us goose bumps and chills just like ‘Patriotic Songs’ can. But what separates the two is that ‘Patriotic Songs’ do not move us closer to God like ‘Anointed Songs’ do.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is real. It truly can even fill a song with God’s presence!
But the anointing does not rest alone with the words of the song. It also rests with the singers and musicians. I have seen the anointed words of ‘Amazing Grace’ not move me when sung by an individual and musicians who were not anointed. But when sung by anointed singers with anointed musicians, I am driven closer to God each and every time, even though I heard the song hundreds of times in my life.
Look what John saw going on in the thrown room of God in Revelation 4 verses 8 to 11:
Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
Notice the repetition of what is going on. Many anointed songs are simple in word structure and need not be complicated. It’s the power of the simple words that matter.
