Most car manufacturers recommend that you always keep your gas tank filled with high quality fuel to prevent moisture buildup and to keep your car running in tip-top shape with maximum power. The same goes spiritually.
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” (Luke 11:24-26)
Last month I wrote a post on how I was filled with the poison of revenge from an early age and how I was purged of it during a dramatic conversion experience when I accepted Jesus Christ as my LORD and Savior at the age of 19:
Now I have to tell the second part of the story how the LORD filled me to overflowing:
Not long after my conversion and being emptied of the poison that was inside of me, the Jehovah Witnesses came to my door. I felt so helpless because I knew Jesus as my Master, but I was bankrupt in trying to defend what I believed. This experience sent me on a lifelong quest of devouring the Word of God and absorbing all knowledge surrounding the Bible and the different religions of the world. I also studied intensely the different beliefs within the Christian faith itself. All of this studying shored up my relationship with Jesus Christ. The more I studied where the other religions and beliefs went wrong, the more it reinforced within me what the truth really was.
The diligence of studying the Bible, continuously seeking the Lord’s face in prayer, and desiring all the gifts He had in store for me have brought me through extremely trying times and experiences in my life. Simply put: The Lord filled me up with high octane fuel and helped maintain my fluid levels so I could navigate the rough and rocky roads I not only had go through, but will continue to go through as long as I am on this earth.
That high octane fuel was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which I received when I was 25. The motor oil that keeps me running smooth and lubricated is reading the Word of God every day. The engine coolant that keeps me running at the right temperature is my daily prayer and mediation in the Lord’s presence.
Have you done an engine checkup lately? How is your fuel, oil and coolant doing? Whatever you do, don’t wait until your ‘Check Engine’ light goes on. It could be very costly!
