Stop and Ask at the Crossroads

This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’ I posted watchmen over you who said, ‘Listen for the sound of the alarm.’ But you replied, ‘No! We won’t pay attention!’ “Therefore, listen to this, all you nations. Take note of my people’s situation. Listen, all the earth! I will bring disaster on my people. It is the fruit of their own schemes, because they refuse to listen to me. They have rejected my word. (Jeremiah 6:16-19 NLT)

It has been laid bare for all to see over the past couple of months of how deeply divided a people we really are in the USA and the world. That is why I must ask you one question. If you were facing indefinite solitary confinement, and you could only take one possession with you, what would it be? I believe that the answer to that question sums up more than any other question I could ask you. Without blinking an eye, I would answer for myself, “The Bible.” All of who I am is based upon the inerrant Word of God and its authority. Unless we agree upon that concept, the reality is that we will never truly see eye to eye.

David Jeremiah tells us, “A ship’s anchor only works if it is embedded in the rock. And the anchor of hope only works if it is embedded in God’s unfailing Word. That’s why so many of us feel hopeless—we’re casting our anchor against the wobbly platitudes of well-meaning friends or the flimsy promises of politicians when what we really need is solid assurance from an unchanging God that our future is secure.”

Nicky Cruz goes on to say, “The world today no longer accepts a belief system rooted in tradition and complacency — doing church as we’ve always done it. The next generation will either see the power of God working in their lives in real, tangible ways, or they will have no use for our message and no interest in following our Savior. They need to see a consistency between our life and our faith. If they don’t, they will reject us as well as our Lord.”

I agree with Nicky. But I believe he does not mention the most vital ingredient of all. That is a ‘conviction of sin’ that needs to descend upon this nation. It is called revival, and revival comes from prayer. We need to plead to the LORD that He will send one more revival before the end. That sinners will give their hearts to Jesus Christ, the living Word of God, at an unprecedented rate.

I have gotten to the point in my life that I will not debate with people politics or religion without first praying for a conviction upon them. If I do not detect a conviction, I will avoid getting into a damaging debate at all costs.

I do not need to go any further than my own website to see that people are noticing how decrepit in morals we have become as a society. I get more hits at Google on my article Bad Will Be Good and Good Will Be Bad than any of my other articles by far.

We truly are at the crossroads. The only answer is to go back to a total dependency upon the Bible along with humble prayer that shakes the world around us. No more hypocrisy and pretending. No more partying during the week, then putting on our pious face for Sunday mornings in church. We must be the real thing!
