Molech Worship Today

Child sacrifice in ancient times was commonly associated with people hoping for greater fertility for either a person or the land. But one cult stands out more heinous from the rest: the cult of Molech (also spelled Moloch), the Canaanite god of child sacrifice.

Let’s see what God has to say about child sacrifice:

Do not permit any of your children to be offered as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not bring shame on the name of your God. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 18:21 NLT)

The Lord said to Moses, “Give the people of Israel these instructions, which apply both to native Israelites and to the foreigners living in Israel. “If any of them offer their children as a sacrifice to Molech, they must be put to death. The people of the community must stone them to death. I myself will turn against them and cut them off from the community, because they have defiled my sanctuary and brought shame on my holy name by offering their children to Molech. And if the people of the community ignore those who offer their children to Molech and refuse to execute them, I myself will turn against them and their families and will cut them off from the community. This will happen to all who commit spiritual prostitution by worshiping Molech. (Leviticus 20:1‭-‬5 NLT)‬‬‬

“The people of Judah have sinned before my very eyes,” says the Lord. “They have set up their abominable idols right in the Temple that bears my name, defiling it. They have built pagan shrines at Topheth, the garbage dump in the valley of Ben-Hinnom, and there they burn their sons and daughters in the fire. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing! So beware, for the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when that garbage dump will no longer be called Topheth or the valley of Ben-Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. They will bury the bodies in Topheth until there is no more room for them. The bodies of my people will be food for the vultures and wild animals, and no one will be left to scare them away. I will put an end to the happy singing and laughter in the streets of Jerusalem. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard in the towns of Judah. The land will lie in complete desolation. (Jeremiah 7:30‭-‬34 NLT)‬‬‬

The statue of Molech, that Jeremiah speaks of which was erected at Topheth, was made of brass. They heated the statue from its lower parts. With its hands being stretched out, and made hot, they put the child between its hands, and it was burnt to death. When it vehemently first cried out, the priests beat a drum, that the parents might not hear the voice of their child. This was so the parents’ heart might not be moved. But God’s heart, as we see in Jeremiah, was deeply moved by this abomination.

Now let’s see what God has to say about the unborn:

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”(Jeremiah 1:5 NLT)

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.” (Isaiah 44:24 ESV)

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15 ESV)

Upon You I have leaned from before my birth; You are He who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of You. (Psalm 71:6 ESV)

This brings us to where we are at today with the raging battlefield concerning child sacrifice, otherwise known as abortion. I will make a statement that God’s Word and Holy Spirit confirm: “A person cannot be a true Christian and believe abortion is OK.”

A baby’s heartbeat begins somewhere between 3 and 4 weeks after conception. This is before a women even realizes she is pregnant. Common sense and morality dictate that stopping an innocent heatbeat whether it is in the womb or out of the womb at any age is murder.

Just like in ancient times with child sacrifice to Molech gave a false hope of a better future, it is the same today that aborting a baby gives a false hope for a better future. Just like in ancient times the drums were beat to drown out the baby’s cries, abortion proponents today do everything they can to de-humanize the baby and project it as an inconvenient mass of tissue.

For the much bigger picture, aborting a baby is a multi-billion dollar industry along with the sale of body parts and placenta. If God did not spare ancient Israel in judgment, how dare we think as a society we will not suffer judgment? How dare we label the battle “A Woman’s Reproductive Rights” when it is a baby’s right to live? How dare it be violently proclaimed, “Hands off my body” when it is no longer your body, but the baby’s within! Once the sexual act was completed, ownership was relinquished.

For those who are against abortion I praise you. But remember, that does not spare us as a society. Granted, we are no longer under the Law concerning Israel as a nation where we can stone people, but that does not clear us as a society that allows the abominable to take place:

The bodies of my people will be food for the vultures and wild animals, and no one will be left to scare them away. I will put an end to the happy singing and laughter in the streets of Jerusalem. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard in the towns of Judah. The land will lie in complete desolation. (Jeremiah 7:33‭-‬34 NLT)

But the Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!” (Genesis 4:10 NLT)

ONLY IN JESUS IS THERE FORGIVENESS FOR ABORTION!
