Scripture Before Anointing

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. (Matthew 5:18 NLT)

I was involved in a debate that tried to point out the dangers of a certain book that claimed it was Jesus’ end time book.

I found that a big mistake many Christians today make is to select a verse to support their view without rightly dividing the whole Word of God. In the case we were dealing with, the person was putting the cart before the horse in trying to defend the book in question with 1 John 2:27. They were relying solely on their ‘anointing’ rather than ‘Scripture’ first and then the inner voice of the Holy Spirit to follow. 1 John 2:27 comes only after the following three verses:

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (II Timothy 3:16 NKJV)

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Timothy 2:15 NKJV)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 NKJV)

Only after putting the Bible first can a Christian claim:

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. (I John 2:27 NKJV)

The Holy Spirit inspired written Word of God always comes first and only then personal revelation follows. Personal revelation, if it is truly Holy Spirit inspired, will always align with the Bible. Since the book in question very clearly does not agree with the Bible, any debate ends there. We are to stay away from it. We are commanded by the Holy Spirit:

Test all things; hold fast what is good. (I Thessalonians 5:21 NKJV)

I detect a dangerous attitude developing where many Christians are more attached to the voice they hear, than to Scripture itself. This is a sign of the times we live in. Lord help us all ! Any voice, inkling, or so called anointing without the foundation of the Word can become a foothold for the devil. As Jesus who was The Word made flesh said over and over and over again, “It is written!”

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (II Timothy 4:3, 4 NKJV)
