Man of Sorrows

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. (Isaiah 53:3 NKJV‬)

‭“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” (Matthew 23:37 ESV‬)

‭And when He drew near and saw the city, He wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” (Luke 19:41-44 ESV‬)

This past Saturday, while my wife and I walked around her home town, there was a PorchFest going on where residents opened up there porches for dozens of local bands to play during the afternoon. As my wife and I were walking around, she bumped into many friends from her young life. In the process, we were passing one house which had a huge crowd. The band said they were going to crank it up a few notches and began playing a Black Sabbath song. It is very hard to put to words what I saw and what I felt as they played. Not only the band, but the crowd became engulfed in a demonic darkness as they physically reacted to the music and words. At this point, a Holy Spirit sorrow descended upon me and tears welled up in my eyes. As my wife and I walked away, we said, “Why did the multiple churches in town not have godly music playing from their steps where their congregants could mingle in the crowd and represent Jesus?”

We have a dying world around us. Each of us has to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, “What are we doing to reach the lost?” The following two portions of sermons below hit home.

‘A Call To Anguish’ and ‘It’s Time to Wake Up!’ are two short excerpts from sermons by Pastor David Wilkerson of Times Square Church NYC. He calls all Christians to anguish over a dying world.
